I am have only been teaching for five years. The first four years I taught, I was in a first grade classroom. It was a little easier to put an emphasis on technology when the students were older. This year I am in Kindergarten classroom and I thought i would have my work cut out for me. After reviewing the National Education Standard for Teachers from the ISTE and have realized that I need to really work on some skill sets set forth in the standards. One area that I will constantly work on is ensuring that modeling digital-age work and learning. I think that the more I integrate technology into my lesson plans, the better I am will become at it as an educator and the more familiar my students will be with technology when they leave the classroom as well as go in to the next grade level.
Goals
I need to get better at finding age appropriate websites for my Kindergarten class to explore and integrating that into my lesson plans. I would like to incorporate parents as well so that they too are familiar with the technology that their students are using.
Actions
To take an advantage of the Smartboard technology we have on our campus. Also to train my young students in the handling of the computers in the mobile lab so I can facilitate more lessons with this highly effective tool. To attend any professional development training in reference to these materials. I will collaborate with other teachers on my grade level and in my school to see what new ideas I can get form them as well as share some ideas of my own. I would also like to turn our grade level newsletter into a wiki. This was I can easily communicate with parents who are willing to contribute to the success of their students.
Monitor
I have two computers in my classroom and one laptop that I occasionally let the students use. I need to be sure my students are aware of the proper procedures for logging on and off of the computers as well as the proper procedures for usernames and passwords. Students will need to be on age appropriate websites at all times while at the computers.
Evaluate;
To evaluate my progress in the goal of integrating technology into my lesson plans. I will make sure that I I speak with my appraiser about this goal. I will make sure that I incorporate at least one kind of technology in each lesson plan for each subject.
